When 16 year old Ramblers junior, Annabelle Lindsay, hit the court during the Capitals Academy win over Launceston on Saturday night, she became the youngest player to represent Canberra in the three years it has been competing in the women’s SEABL competition.
More importantly, Annabelle represented Ramblers and is the product of the Club’s strong pathway for junior players. Annabelle joined Ramblers as a 9 year old, and has played for the Club since then – she is the first product of the Ramblers junior program to play for the Capitals Academy.
Ramblers is well represented in the Capitals Academy program, with senior players, Tara Hay, Ellie Junod and Brianna Dalgleish, being mainstays of the team. Molly McPhee, another Ramblers junior, is also a member of the Caps Academy squad. Greg Evans, Ramblers Head Coach and Coach of the women’s Premier 1 and U19 D1 teams, is a key member of the Caps Academy coaching staff.
Ramblers is proud of its junior pathway, and its strong contribution of players to the ACT representative program. The Club works with its players to prepare them for high level competition, particularly in the Senior competition. Seven of our Premier 1 women’s team are current or former Ramblers juniors. Looking down to our U12 girls, we expect that a lot more will be taking the court for the Capitals Academy in the years to come.
