Club Vision

The Belconnen Ramblers exist to give people in the Belconnen community — and across Canberra — the opportunity to play basketball at whatever level suits them. We have been doing this for more than 55 years, and the philosophy has not changed: basketball is better when it is inclusive, well run, and genuinely community-minded.

What We Stand For

We believe sport is most powerful when it brings people together across generations, abilities, and backgrounds. Our junior program gives children their first experience of team sport. Our senior competition gives adults a reason to stay active and connected. Our volunteers give their time because they care — and because they were once Ramblers players themselves.

In 2024, the ACT Government recognised this contribution with the Chief Minister’s Award for Community Organisation of the Year. We are proud of that recognition, but more proud of the 55 years of effort by hundreds of people that made it possible.

Our Commitments

  • Development over winning. We develop players for life, not just for the season. Junior pathways from Under 10 through to Junior Premier League, and senior pathways from social competition to Premier League, give players room to grow at their own pace.
  • Community first. We keep fees as low as possible, offer payment plans, and provide discounts for volunteers. We have supported disadvantaged youth through our sponsorship partnerships and remain committed to making the sport accessible.
  • Transparency. Our finances are open to any member who wishes to review them. AGM results are shared with all attendees. The committee is elected, approachable, and accountable.
  • Fun and excellence together. We take development seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. A good training session should be challenging and enjoyable at the same time.

What Is a Rambler?

The name means something. A Rambler is defined as a player so skilled that they make the game look easy, effortless — like magic. They wander through the defence as if they are simply rambling. It is a high standard, and one we aspire to — not just in skill, but in character.

If you share that standard, you belong here. Get in touch and come and join us.
