Belconnen Ramblers Awarded Chief Minister’s Canberra Gold AwardThe Belconnen Ramblers Basketball Club is proud to announce that we have been awarded the 2024 Chief Minister’s Canberra Gold Award, recognising more than fifty years of service, participation, and contribution to the Canberra community.
The Canberra Gold Awards celebrate individuals and community groups that have called Canberra home for over half a century, acknowledging the important role they play in shaping the city’s culture, identity, and community spirit. The Ramblers are honoured to be recognised alongside other long-standing contributors who have helped make Canberra the vibrant and welcoming place it is today.Founded in the early 1970s, the Belconnen Ramblers has grown from a small local club into one of Canberra’s most established basketball communities.
Across generations, the club has supported thousands of players, coaches, volunteers, and families—many of whom have remained involved long after their playing days. Our history is built on passion, inclusion, competition, and a genuine commitment to helping young people thrive through sport. The award will be officially presented at a ceremony on 13 March 2024, where representatives of the club will receive a commemorative lapel pin and certificate from the Chief Minister, acknowledging our five decades of contribution.
Club President Chris Wattam said the recognition reflects the dedication of everyone who has been part of the Ramblers community over the years. “This is a wonderful honour for the club and a testament to the generations of volunteers, players, coaches, and families who have built the Ramblers into what it is today. Our club has always been about more than basketball—it’s about community, connection, and giving young people a place to belong.”
The Belconnen Ramblers would like to thank all current and past members for their involvement, support, and commitment. This award is a tribute to everyone who has proudly worn the Black and Gold and contributed to our club’s success over the past 50 years. We look forward to continuing our legacy for decades to come—and to growing the next generation of Ramblers.
