Ramblers return to the Women’s Senior Premier League

After several years away from the competition, the Ramblers are stepping back onto Canberra’s biggest stage of club basketball with renewed purpose, strong leadership, and a clear vision to build a competitive and sustainable women’s pathway for years to come.

At the heart of this return is the appointment of our new head coach, Michael Haynes, a highly respected leader in the Canberra basketball community who joins us after an extraordinary run of success with a rival club. With three championships from the past seven seasons, his experience, culture-building approach, and commitment to player development have already brought enormous momentum to the Ramblers program.

The response from players across Canberra has been overwhelmingly positive, with interest from both emerging young talent and established Senior League athletes — including several who have played under our new coach before and are excited to reunite.

Club President Chris Wattam said the relaunch represents an important milestone for both the Ramblers and women’s basketball in Belconnen.

“Re-entering the Senior Premier League isn’t just about fielding a team. It’s about providing a true high-performance pathway for our junior girls, strengthening women’s basketball in the region, and building a program our community can be proud of. With the coaching, culture, and support now in place, we’re confident this group will do great things.”

The Ramblers will finalise their roster over the coming months, with preseason training and trial opportunities to be announced shortly. The club has also secured key sponsorship support to ensure the program starts strong both on and off the court.

As we prepare for tip-off in 2026, the Ramblers invite our community, families, supporters, and alumni to get behind this exciting new era for the women’s program. The Black and gold are back — and ready to compete.

More updates, squad announcements, and preseason information will be shared soon.
