The Belconnen Ramblers have officially marked their return to the Women’s Senior Premier League – Division 1, taking the court this week in what is believed to be the club’s first appearance at this level in close to two decades.
In a highly anticipated Round 1 clash against long-time rivals Ginninderra Rats, Ramblers delivered a strong and composed performance to secure a hard-fought 49–45 victory.
The team came out with intent, building an early lead through disciplined defence and confident offensive execution. Ginninderra responded with determination, mounting a late comeback that brought the game down to the final seconds, but Ramblers held firm to claim the win.
Beyond the result, the night represented a significant milestone for the club.
This newly formed squad reflects the strength and growth of the Ramblers program, bringing together athletes from a range of pathways — including players who have progressed through the club’s junior system, those who are competing at NBL1 level, and others who have joined from across the Canberra basketball community.
The return to Premier League competition is the result of a sustained effort behind the scenes, with strong support from coaches, volunteers, and sponsors helping to bring the program to life.
The team also took the court in a newly launched uniform, inspired by the club’s early 2010s design — a nod to Ramblers history and identity. The uniforms and warm-up gear have been proudly produced by Huru, reconnecting the club with a long-standing supplier from a previous era.
Club representatives acknowledged the importance of the moment, not just for the players, but for the broader Ramblers community.
“This is an important step forward for our club. It represents the pathway we’re building for our players and the direction we’re heading as a basketball community.”
With two teams now competing across the Women’s Premier League divisions, Ramblers are focused on building consistency, competitiveness, and a strong club culture both on and off the court.
The club is also calling on its community to get behind the teams, with supporters, families, and junior players encouraged to attend upcoming games and be part of this new chapter.
As the season unfolds, the Ramblers look forward to continuing to build momentum and reconnect with their Premier League history.
The club is also inviting past players and members of the basketball community to share their knowledge of previous Ramblers teams at this level, helping to celebrate the full history of the program.
